Aside from the physical health risks posed to obese children, the emotional risks are obvious. Anyone who thinks that it is the responsibility of other children to become more tolerant is probably morally correct, though living in an unachievable fantasy.

Children cannot help but say what they see, whether said with malicious intent or not, if they notice a child in their class who is overweight, it will at some stage be mentioned.

Of course we can argue that a better and easier solution to the childhood obesity epidemic is to emotionally resource the obese child so that they have self esteem and confidence to such high levels, their emotional resilience cannot be fractured by the taunts of their peers. The majority of these homes include children, or children are being planned for the future. There are many benefits for the children in homes with cats and dogs as pets.

Tips for parents of twins/multiples

Giving birth to twins or multiples can be both a blessing and a challenge. I am amazed at how many people will stop me to tell me how cute they are and even how lucky I am to have two. One little boy in the grocery store even asked how did I get two, to which I replied “they were on sale”.

I haven’t always felt lucky, especially when my boys didn’t let me sleep for the first 9 months and I felt up to my ears in dirty diapers and dirty laundry. It hasn’t always been stressful though.
